Attractive, quality headset at an affordable price

Cootree makes quality products, plain and simple, I have used several Cootree electronics and they all perform well, looked great, and sell at an attractive price point. These Cootree wired headset offer clear, crisp sound that doesn't break up when played at volume.

Sometimes when I go for my daily walk I like to listen to AM radio talk shows. Surprisingly and unfortunately I can't find any AM/FM radios with bluetooth, making wired headsets my only choice. So now equipped with my tiny AM radio and my Cootree headset off I go. I also like the fact that they don't block out all extraneous sound so I can be alert to traffic. When not listening to AM, I can use them with my phone, listen to music and take phone calls. When tested, my friend on the other phone said the call was clear without any crackling or distortion. On my end, perfectly clear.

They are also rather attractive with the red and black flat wire and the aluminum (assumed) bullet shaped earbuds. I know Cootree doesn't yet have the name recognition that say Beats does, but at a fraction of the price, I feel they have great value and quality. I was offered this headset for an unbiased review.

      Surprisingly good product

Good clear sound in that they sound true to what I hear coming out of my higher quality speakers. They do not sound tinny or crackly if you turn up the volume a bit.

They also work well with my iPhone 6 plus for music and for phone conversations. The person on the other end of my
conversation had no idea that I was using headphones with mic. The voice quality over the headphones was very clear as well.

I use these to workout and they performed fantastic, while running on treadmill I could hear music without distortion.

The build quality on the buds and cord seem of good quality so far. More pliable, thick cord and the earphones are a bit thicker and seem to be of quality plastic without feeling "plastic".

Disclaimer: I received a sample of this product in exchange for a detailed and honest review. The fact that it cost me nothing has no bearing on my rating or review of the product - this product has earned the rating I have given it.

      Surprisingly good performance

First off, I received this item free for the purpose of review. It's my hope that my observations and impressions will be helpful to you in your decision making. If you have any questions, feel free to leave them in the comments section and I'll do my best to answer them based on my experience with this product.

What you're getting with this order is a pair of Cootree headphones with universal one button control and a built in mic. In addition to to simply playing music, they can be used with iOS devices to pause and resume as well as skip that music. They can also be used to accept or reject a phone call. The order also comes with a user's guide which explains how to use the one button control to access the many different functions. The headset is fairly accurately represented in the product description photos, but one thing that doesn't quite show up is that the wire is flat instead of round and is two toned being red and black. The ear buds appear exactly as pictured and have an alloy look and a unique, bullet shaped design. The earbud tips are silicone and extra tips of different sizes are included for optimal fit. The audio connector is done in the same alloy style as the earbuds. The specs are in line with stock earbuds.

So, how do they perform? Surprisingly well. Keeping in mind that this product competes in the budget price range, they perform like a much more expensive headset. I was particularly impressed with the bass which held up very well, even at high volumes. The upper ranges remained quite crisp at high volume as well. Overall, the music listening experience with these headphones far exceeded my expectations in this price range, and could be enjoyed at all levels of volume and across a fairly wide spectrum of music and voice, from bass heavy to treble dominated to podcasts.

The phone functions of the headset worked flawlessly, and the microphone was more than sufficient.

Other items of note: First, as of the writing of this review, this item is eligible for free shipping to Amazon Prime members, and that's always a check in the plus column for me. Second, I really like the flat wire style. It's less easy to tangle and seems to add an element of durability to the product. I also really like the look of these headphones in general. The bullet shaped earbuds with the alloy construction looks unique and stylish.

Bottom line: These headphones may compete in the budget range, but their performance will surprise you and the sound quality holds across a variety of music. Add to that their cool color scheme and design, and this is a very easy product to recommend. I'm very happy to own them, and I highly recommend them to anyone looking for quality sound without spending a fortune. Enjoy!

      Outstanding, Especially Considering the Price

I use ear buds for listening to music every day. My primary set of buds is a pair of Bose QC-20i active noise-canceling (ANC) buds and is my reference point against which I compare other ear buds. These Cootree buds are in a completely different class than the Bose ear buds but they compare surprisingly well - far better than I could ever have imagined.

I often have trouble getting silicone insert ear buds to fit comfortably or properly; they have a tendency to either not seal correctly or just fall out. These ear buds actually fit very nicely and I have been able to get them to seal properly without having to adjust and readjust them. I also have had no issues with them falling out. They fit very comfortably too which brings up a good point - these buds come with three sets of silicone plugs to accommodate different sizes of ear canals so getting them to fit right should be no issue.

The most important consideration for any set of ear buds or ear phones is sound quality and profile. I tried these buds with my cell phone and also with my computer, loading up a variety of tracks that would properly test the sound quality across the spectrum. Most of the ear buds I have used get the highs right, have mediocre midrange and then either lose or overdrive the bass. With these buds, the highs are good but not super-sharp, the midrange is warm and the bass is good but not overdriven - a very well-balanced sound spectrum. I did notice that at especially low volume the bass fades a bit but is still there. In comparison, the Bose ear buds are a little flat in the midrange but have slightly sharper highs and deeper bass. That improvement in sound comes at nearly 20 times the price of the Cootree buds. Unless you want the ANC function, that's an awfully big difference for a modest sound improvement.

I decided to try something a little different and compared these buds to my favorite ANC headphones, a pair of Monster Inspiration phones which have among the best sound of all the ANC phones I have used. The Cootree buds sound profile is similar to the Monster phones with the ANC function turned off (Monster boosts the bass and a portion of the midrange when the ANC is enabled). Admittedly this is not a fair test, but the fact that the buds were competitive with these phones says a whole lot about them.

I tried the buds as a hands-free set with my phone and the person on the other end said I sounded very clear but hard to hear as the volume was a little too soft. This is not a function I will use often as I use the Bluetooth capability in my car for my phone, but it's a nice-to-have and an important data point to keep in mind if you plan to use them for hands-free talking.

I tried the multi-function button while talking. I use a Windows phone and during the call the button simply disconnected the call. When I tried the same while listening to music, the button works as a pause instead.

As I write this, these buds are selling for under $20 here on Amazon. That's an absolute steal - I have used $100 buds that do not sound as good as these. For the cost, these ear buds are among the best buds I have ever used for non-ANC buds, outperforming some buds that are more expensive. I was surprised that they even compared pretty well against the Bose ANC ear buds which cost nearly 20 times more. For very good sound for not a lot of money, these ear buds are fantastic.

Disclaimer: I was provided a sample of this product in exchange for a fair, honest and thorough review. Even though I received this product at no cost I have rated and reviewed this product without bias, based solely on my experience with it.
